I still remember the first time I tasted satar, during our first trip to Terengganu. It was a curious and interesting looking food. Much like the satay, it is served on a stick. However it is also wrapped in banana leaf and grilled over flaming charcoal fire, making it look more tempting then ever.
Satar is a traditional Terengganu dish made up of deboned fresh fishmeat blended and mixed with fresh coconut, shallots, ginger, garlic, chillies and some spices. Then this mixture is wrapped up in banana leaf in a shape of a cone. The satar is then grilled over fire on a stick.
So the next time you see satar being sold near the roadside in Terengganu, stop and get some. It's hot, its fresh and simply delicious. They make great snacks while you relax by the beach. You'll just have to taste it for yourself.
It's hard to get satar anywhere else in Malaysia but Terengganu has the best satar I've ever tasted because it contains lots of fresh fish meat and the taste is not too sweet. Meanwhile take a peek at how satar is made in the video below.<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V58WVpO0jHg?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V58WVpO0jHg?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
